The Highlights are:
The Capitoline Museums of Rome, also called ‘Musei Capitolini’ are a number of museums located in Piazza del Campidoglio (designed by Michelangelo) in the buildings of the Palazzo dei Conservatori and Palazzo Nuevo. Both buildings are connected underground with a corridor. As the name of the museum indicates, this museum is located on the Capitol, one of the seven hills of Rome. The founding of the Capitoline Museums can be traced back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value to the People of Rome. The collections of statues, paintings and other objects are closely linked to the city of Rome and most of the exhibits come from the city itself.
With the occasion you will also visit the exhibition “the Torlonia marbles” that has more than 90 works selected among the 620 catalogued marbles that belong to the most important private collection of ancient sculptures. This collection is the result of a long series of acquisitions and some significant shifts of sculptures between the various residences of the Family. A privileged cross-section of the history of the collecting of antiquities in Rome from the 15th to the 19th centuries. The items on display are not only outstanding examples of ancient sculpture (busts, reliefs, statues, sarcophagi, and decorative elements) but also a reflection of a cultural process – the beginnings of the collecting of antiquities and the crucially important transition from the collection to the Museum: a process where Rome and Italy have had an indisputable primacy.
Lunch will be hosted at Terrazza Caffarelli, one of the most incredible heated terraces in Rome, where you can taste Italian specialties looking at the inimitable panoramic view of Rome. In the afternoon free shopping time in the centre of Rome, meeting point for a tea in a special roman bar/museum and transfer back to the hotel.
